At one point we waded near some riffles and fished a lane of quick moving shallow water with a shelf about 30 feet out.

It was harder to position the cast from the bank, but easier to make subtle adjustments that changed the drift pattern by just walking a bit. Overall I struggled here, but Nat was right there to talk me through the position of my fly: "set-able", "bite-able" in my ear all day. Since fishing with her I still think those words when I dead drift... "That's set-able" (meaning the right amount of line on the water) and "Bite-able" (when the drift is dead and capable of attracting a strike). Thanks Nat!

The shot below was taken while eating lunch near a sandbar that later proved to be productive. I asked Nat to show me [again] a proper drift and one-cast-one-fish - she has skills.

Near the end of the day we pulled into a spot that really can't be adequately described with any words that I can think of, but lets just say there were riffles, a sharp drop-off, and a confluence that all collided together in one place. Even the pictures I took don't do it justice (so I didn't post them).

It was here that I hooked into (Nat and I both agreed) at least a 20" beauty that eventually spit the hook... but, not before a long, reel-screaming struggle.  I was disappointed, only partly due to the obvious, but another part of me wanted to land it as a way to show Nat that her coaching paid off.

That's all I'm going to say about the "one-that-got-away", but I still get an adrenaline rush just thinking about the fight.
