Mammoth Creek, UT |

One of the most beautiful settings that I was able to fish while in Utah was Mammoth Creek fairly close to Hatch, UT. The road back to the creek was rough and muddy, but the payoff was worth it. After fishing for about an hour I was treated to a sunset that my camera doesn't do justice reproducing.
I didn't wander too far from the road, so it's not surprising to me that I didn't get into much in the way of water that was holding.
As further evidence that hiking is worth the time and energy; I did end up finding (err... spooking) a small pod of Brown Trout about a half mile upstream.
It was my intention to return for a full day of fishing, but the weather turned foul during the night and the following day the wind was gusting at up to 60 mph.
These shots hurt my heart to revisit. The stream was exactly what I was picturing when we planned this trip. It's a shame that a freak storm - the biggest in 27 years for that time of year - prevented access to many of the fishing hot-spots on my list.
Oh well, I guess I will have to go back someday.
